Each quarter, Homefield Credit Union employees are asked to nominate a co-worker for the GEM (Going the Extra Mile) Award for performance which aligns with the Credit Union’s Core Values. Since the beginning of the year, the Executive Management Team has received a number of GEM nominations from employees who observed their peers going above and beyond. And, while all of the nominees are worthy of recognition, Karen Kaylor was chosen as the recipient of the GEM Award.
Karen Kaylor was nominated by Donna Gogliormella.
While performing her morning duties, Karen became suspicious of a check that appeared on her overdraft report. Sensing something was just not right, she contacted the Homefield CU member whose account the check was written against. The member confirmed that the check was in fact fraudulent. After a bit of investigative work, Karen found out that someone in Omaha, Nebraska had fraudulent checks printed with information that belonged to this member (i.e., Homefield CU’s routing number and the member’s account number). The fraudster then attempted to deposit one of the fraudulent checks into their own account, via mobile deposit, at a financial institution in Nebraska. The check was for $6,500! After speaking with the member to determine next steps, Karen notified Donna Gogliormella that the member would be in to close his account and open a new one. Needless to say, the member was extremely grateful. This great detective work on Karen’s part helped save the $6,500 that the fraudster was attempting to steal! Karen OWNED the situation and because of her thoroughness, it was a nice WIN for everyone involved!
